Counselors-in-Training (CIT) Leadership Program
"Be the Leader and Be Responsible"
The Robotfun Academy Counselors-in-Training (CIT) Program is designed for motivated students entering 9th and 10th grade who are eager to grow into leadership roles and become future junior counselors. This CIT program bridges the transition from camper to counselor, giving teens the opportunity to develop leadership skills through hands-on experience, mentorship, and increasing responsibilities. Working in a fun and supportive robotics camp environment, CITs gain valuable real-world experience while building the confidence and skills needed to become effective leaders and role models.
CITs work alongside Robotfun Academy instructors and staff, supporting younger campers in programs ranging from LEGO® robotics to VEX robotics. Through classroom shadowing and guided mentorship, participants help with projects, activities, and daily routines while learning leadership, patience, classroom management, child development, and activity planning. More than just volunteers, CITs are active members of the camp community who strengthen their communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while building confidence and responsibility.

Leadership Pathway
CIT 1 (9/10th Grade, 2-4 half-weeks) introduces leadership through classroom observation and instructor shadowing. Participants learn camp policies and procedures, practice classroom assisting from setup to clean up, and gain experience supporting younger students in Grade 1-3 while developing foundational leadership and communication skills.

CIT 2 (10/11th Grade, 2-4 half-weeks) builds on that foundation with increased responsibility with expanded classroom support to Grade 4-8. CITs assist with classroom instruction, mentor younger students up to middle school campers, support activities from classroom to outdoor recess, and gain practical experience serving as junior leaders. This hands-on experience helps prepare them for future counselor roles.
Leadership and Skill Development
At Robotfun Academy, leadership is learned through experience. Through guided mentorship and hands-on teaching opportunities, participants are encouraged to take initiative, communicate effectively, collaborate with others, and step confidently into leadership roles. Every aspect of the program promotes growth in problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
Future Opportunities
The CIT Program provides meaningful real-world experience and prepares teens for future leadership opportunities. Students who successfully complete the program and demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and enthusiasm for working with children may be eligible to apply for Junior Counselor positions at Robotfun Academy when they rise to Grade 11 or 12.
Whether they aspire to become junior counselors, future engineers, educators, or community leaders, Robotfun Academy’s CIT Program empowers young teens to lead, learn, and make a meaningful impact through robotics, creativity, and mentorship.
